An Australian heirloom pumpkin from Western Australia (hence its name), this cold tolerant pumpkin grows well in most climates, producing large grey skinned pumpkins of excellent flavour. Produces large 5kg pumpkins with prominent ribbing, abundant flesh and amazing flavour. Excellent storage characteristics. Harvest in 20 weeks.

Pumpkin 'Jarrahdale'

Growing and fruiting well, even in the cold climate at The Garden of St Erth, this flavoursome pumpkin is a cross between two popular pumpkins- the Blue Hubbard and Cinderella pumpkins. Named after the town in Western Australia where it was born, 'Jarrahdale' is somewhat similar to Queensland Blue in colour, but with mildly sweeter flesh. Easy to cut and keep. Perfect for those in cooler areas of Australia.
How to grow

Pumpkins are the easiest of the curcubits to grow, they are big feeders, so dig in plenty of well rotted manure where they are to grow. They germinate easily in warm soil, gardeners in cooler areas can start their seedlings in pots in a warm spot and plant out after risk of frost has passed. Pumpkins need plenty of water as they grow, mulch well to conserve moisture and eliminate weeds. Harvest pumpkins when the stalk attaching it to the vine turns woody and corky. Cut (not tear) the stalk from the plant. Never lift the pumpkin by this 'handle' as if it breaks off the pumpkin will go mouldy within days.
